We are proud to announce that our newest barista Joe (new to us, but a long time coffee fan) headed over to Belfast last week and came first in the heat of UK Barista Championships.
With a solid performance for a first time entrant, and support in the preceding days from staff and customers alike, Joe used a delicious Has Bean Rawandan Kigoma Fully Washed Bourbon for his coffee, including a lemonade based signature drink to create a zesty mix of flavours.
We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Joe on our team and his hard work and practice has really paid off. Now he focuses himself on the next step, as the semi-finals will be fast approaching on the 28th April in London.
Check out some of the photos below curtosy of Rob Smythe’s and Union Roasted’s Twitter Accounts.
Also, follow Joe on his Twitter.

Our barista Craig went to Coffee Common this past weekend - an event held at Prufrock in London to share coffee methods from some of the best in the world. Check out his photos from the event here!

A description of our espresso blend Jailbreak, supplied to us by the lovely folk at Hasbean. I will write up a full account of our work with artisan coffee roasters Hasbean very soon, but for now enjoy head roaster Steve Leighton giving a description of what Jailbreak has to offer.
Here are some cheat notes on Jailbreak too (taken from the Hasbean website):
Jailbreak consists of100% Arabica beans, which are:
These are premium coffees that on their own are amazing single origin coffees, but as a blend bring sweetness, acidity, body and all around deliciousness.
For flavour notes and further info on the blend watch the above video or head to the Hasbean site, where you can also find out more info on their other blends and single origins.
Soon Craig, one of our Baristas, will be heading to the Hasbean secret layer (roastery) in a secret location (Stafford). Check back soon for photos and a blog detailing his adventures!
This will be an account all about the adventures of an independent coffee shop in Birmingham called Six Eight Kafe (or 6/8 Kafe for those numerically inclined.) It will detail information about the shop itself, the coffee world which it is a part of, promotions, events and ventures to other coffee shops.
This will also be a hub for musings on coffee and the independent coffee shop scene; hopefully a culture that will spread to Birmingham. We look to be at the forefront of this movement and bring not only the best coffee, but only the highest standards of service, knowledge and skills in our humble shop.
So here is to new beginnings and what looks to be a great future.
