Its that time again. Our free monthly music night held in our basement on Wednesday 6th June, 2012. We haven’t just got one treat for you, but two musical feasts.
First at 6:30pm its Greg Smith with a solo acoustic set. Greg has been in various bands, including Black Heart Generator and his new band called Ghost of Dead Airplanes.

This will be followed by some jazz from the band Mouse at 7:00pm.
Mouse describe their sound as music fresh from the pages of an aberrant tunesmith for the perennially indecisive, and/or those in possession a short attention span.
Sometimes jazz, sometimes rock, but never jazz-rock. Mouse are made up by
Chris Maddock - Alto Saxophone
Charlotte Williamson - Vocals
Tymek Jozwiak - Drums
Alex Phillips - Bass
and our very own regular James Rhead - Keyboard

Welcome to our humble shop.

The humble takeaway cup is often something taken for granted and discarded once a beverage is finished…well not at 6/8. We have invited a whole host of illustrators, graphic designers and photographers to put their unique skills onto stickers that will adorn our takeaway cups. As well as our customers getting a little piece of art with every drink, it will also be a way of these creatives getting their work to a new audience.
Some are exclusive prints designed for this project, whereas others have sketched or done typography that is different on every sticker - no two cups will be the same.
The majority of contributors are locally based, but submissions are coming from as far away as Glasgow.
So far we have been kindly donated work from:
Jodie Atkins - photographer and graphic designer
One Sugar Please - print designer illustrator
Kerry Leslie - graphic designer and creator of FAKE Magazine
This is an ongoing project and we welcome submissions from anyone who would like to be part of it.
If you would like to be involved then contact us on Twitter or Facebook.
Keep sketching.
We had a great time at Oxjam Brum and enjoyed raising money for charity while listening to some great tunes.

Learn more about coffee and get to sample some exclusive brews
In My Mug is a weekly video blog and coffee subscription service by our world class roaster Has Bean, and presented each week by Has Bean’s head roaster (and all round nice man) Steve Leighton.
With 149 episodes in the can, Steve decided he would do something special for episode 150, getting the shops he supplies together and bringing subscribers and fans together.
So, from 2pm on Sunday 25th September, we will be participating in the festivities. We will be serving up two exclusive coffees for your pleasure in various brewing methods, all for a small charity donation. During our coffee sampling we will be connected to Steve himself and other shops around the country via webcam, so we can all revel in a national event of coffee geekery.
So contact 6/8 through Facebook, email or Twitter informing us that you would like to attend; and be at 6/8 from 2:30pm and the drinking should go on no longer than 4pm (we go live at 3!)

On the 22nd September 2011, Birmingham Friends of the Earth in conjunction with PushBikes and Sustrans will be holding 5 “Bike Train” events. We will be supplying free filter coffees and cups of tea to participants of this opportunity for people to get out on their bikes for the commute to work at their meet up in Victoria Square.
It is the annual Car Free Day, so we want people to leave their cars at home and join a “Bike Train” to work.
A bike train is essentially a group of people cycling together to get to their destination. It is a mass-ride that is a SAFE, FUN, and SIMPLE way to:
- get fit
- get to know your colleagues and meet new people
- help the environment by reducing air pollution and CO2 emissions
- discover Birmingham and see it from a completely different perspective
Birmingham Bike Trains will be running along 5 routes into the city centre (Victoria Square) in time for people to get to work.
Also a reminder that we offer a 15% Discount on Hot Drinks to Cyclists coming to our shop - Monday to Friday between 7:30am - 10am & 2:30pm -6:00pm more info here
Other Birmingham independent coffee shops such as Brewsmiths and Urban Coffee Company will also be handing out some treats to the pedalling enthusiasts. Find out more about other independent coffee shops giving a helping hand.

In My Mug / Barista Jam 7/5/11
We were lucky enough to be visited by Has Bean’s head roaster Steve Leighton to record In My Mug Live (see here) and chat with his adoring fans.
We then followed it with 6/8’s first Barista Jam, inviting baristas from around Birmingham (and Shrewsbury!) to chat coffee, have a go on our Synesso and have a few beers.
This will be the first of many to come and keep a close eye out for upcoming events in the next couple of months.
